Training Ground

Willington Fire Department's training grounds located behind Station 13 which was bought at the same time as the property that the station sits on now. We have used this area for the past few years as a training area for car extrication, and car fires. In the summer of 2006 Jeremiah Gilmour, Mike Kneeland, and Mike Kenderdine donated their time to clean up, and grade off the area. Over the winter of 2006 Lowell Karpuska and Jeremiah came up with the Idea to use shipping containers as a training area. In the fall of 2007 the concrete pad for the containers was poured by Jeff Pierce. We purchased the shipping containers through a local dealer in the summer of 2007. The shipping containers were transported by Mike Kenderdine and Jeremiah Gilmour. These containers will be used to construct a building that will replicate both residential and commercial settings. As well as but not limited to, training areas that will simulate a partial structural collapse, low profile or confined space areas, and roof simulators to practice ventilation. The design for the containers was created by Lowell Karpuska, and constructed by Jeremiah Gilmour. The containers were stacked, and bolted together by Jeremiah in the winter of 2007.
